What is genetic testing?
Genetic testing or DNA testing is a medical test that analyses genetic material or DNA to confirm or rule out suspected genetic conditions that may eventually cause health problems.

What is genetic discrimination?
This is when people are treated unfavorably by their employer or insurance companies because they have a genetic condition that predisposes them to a particular genetic disorder. Though there are laws protecting individuals’ genetic information and identity, there are some cases in which this genetic information can be disclosed to law enforcement agencies and insurance companies.

Debio works to get rid of the problem of genetic discrimination by using blockchain technology to ensure that users’ genetic information is encrypted and only disclosed to the user.
Apart from genetic testing Debio has numerous use cases some of which include
- Genetic analysis where users upload genes they have previously sequenced and a genetic analyst will then proceed to analyze the genes.
- Health record storage too is another use and in this case, users need not worry about the security of their personal health records since they will be secured with encryption and only the user can decrypt. The health records can be uploaded unanimously and devio can be used to transmit the records to health care providers without centralizing the data to another party.
- Data marketplace: users can aggregate their data using a data aggregator and sell the data as tokens
As Debio grows and expands other uses could be developed by writing new smart contracts on the appchain.
HOW DEBIO WORKS
For a user that wants to get genetic testing, he/she is required to take 2 buccal samples(taken from inside the cheek) and then taken to the lab. The sample has no sociodemographic data on it, It only has the users private keys. The laboratory processes it and the result is encrypted and uploaded to the blockchain.
Debio works by using high level encryption to secure the results and the result are only accessed by the user with their private key.
PAYMENTS ON DEBIO
Payments can be made through crypto currencies, or through an escrow. The smart contract only releases the payment after the laboratory results have been sent to the blockchain.
